The goal of the kindergarten program is to grow students spiritually, physically, academically, and emotionally within the framework of Catholic/Christian values. This program is designed to ignite a love of learning in a warm and safe environment. Our academic focus is on the areas of reading, math, social studies, science, and religion.
Language Arts: We use the Open Court Reading program, which is a comprehensive approach. Students learn beginning reading skills, comprehension, phonemic awareness, the alphabet principle, and writing. Students will be engaged in whole group lessons, shared lessons, guided lessons, and working independently in centers to practice skills learned.
Mathematics: Kindergarten uses the Saxon Math Program. Lessons are designed to create effective problem solvers. Students learn about numbers, counting to 100, adding, subtracting, measuring, shapes, graphs, time, and money.
Science: Kindergarten uses LabLearner. The units include beginning explorations, making and recording observations, using math, making measurements, using and making models, and exploring time and sequence.
Social Studies: In social studies, students learn about the continents, rights, and responsibilities of belonging to a family, school, and faith community, love of country; our country, and its holidays and symbols, map, and global knowledge.
Religion: Kindergarten students learn about God, Jesus, The Holy Family, saints, feast days, and the liturgical calendar. We attend Mass on Fridays and pray together daily as a class community.
Kindergarten has special's classes in Physical Education, Spanish, Music, Art, and Library.
