Introduction
The Task
Your task is to select
Ten Tanlalizing Tarheels as your dinner guests at the Historic Biltmore Estate.
You will be responsible for creating a final product that convinces your teacher
you have selected the most interesting and entertaining dinner guests for
your special evening.
Your final product
includes the submission of various factual information about your Tarheels
as well as the creation of a newspaper article or journal entry that details
your wonderful evening at the Biltmore Estate.
The Process
STEP 1 “MAP IT OUT”
Type in the Tantalizing
Tar Heel’s name, birth date, county of origin, and contribution made to the
state of North Carolina on the chart.
STEP 2 “WHICH WAY
DID YOU GO?”
Type in the reason for
each of your ten choices on the chart.
STEP 3 “PICTURE
THIS”
Include a picture of
each tantalizing Tar Heel OR a picture denoting the contribution made by
that person. (For example, a picture of Dale Earnhardt or a picture of his
race car.) You may draw freehand or use a picture
from a magazine or other resource.
STEP 4 “SEND ME
A POSTCARD”
Write an article for
your local newspaper detailing your evening at the Biltmore Estate.
Include some of the interesting conversation you had with your ten tantalizing
Tar Heels. (8TH Grade)
Write a journal entry
detailing your evening at the Biltmore Estate. Include some of the
interesting conversation you had with your ten tantalizing Tar Heels. (4TH
Grade)
STEP 5 “UNPACK
YOUR BAGS”
Print out the chart and
turn in to your teacher for a grade.
Evaluation
Your grade will be determined by
the following criteria:
TOOK A DETOUR #1 (Grade OF “D”
earned)
Four or fewer Tantalizing Tar Heels were chosen.
You filled out the chart and included all of the information. For example,
names, birth dates, counties of origin, contributions to the state of North
Carolina and your reason for selecting each Tar Heel was included.
HALFWAY THERE #2 (Grade of
“C” earned)
At least five Tantalizing Tar Heels were
chosen.
You filled out the chart and included all of the information. For example,
names, birth date, counties of origin, contributions to the state of North
Carolina and your reason for selecting each Tar Heel was included.
ONE MORE MILE #3 (Grade of “B”
earned)
At least eight Tantalizing Tar Heels were chosen.
You filled out the chart and included all of the information. For example,
names, birth date, counties of origin, contributions to the state of North
Carolina and your reason for selecting each Tar Heel was included.
WELCOME TO BILTMORE #4 (Grade of
“A” earned)
Ten Tantalizing Tar Heels were chosen, including two women.
You filled out the chart and included all of the information. For example,
names, birth date, counties of origin, contributions to the state of North
Carolina and your reason for selecting each Tar Heel was included.
Your work was neatly completed and free of spelling errors.
Conclusion
You will have a better understanding
of the contributions made by these Ten Tantalizing Tar Heels after completing
this WebQuest Technology. In fact, their lives will so inspire you that
one day in the near future, we will see YOUR name among the Tantalizing Tar
Heels as a result of YOUR wonderful contribution to the great state of North
Carolina.
