SCRIP participation
can make a difference!
“What is
SCRIP?”
-
SCRIP
is a year-round fundraiser in which our school earns money without the
need to buy or sell candy, wrapping paper, lawn ornaments or other
unwanted items. SCRIP is also just a fancy word meaning gift
certificates and gift cards.
When you purchase and use these cards, Blessed Sacrament School
earns money when you buy everyday items, like groceries, toiletries and
gas.
The best part is that it doesn’t cost you one extra cent.
-
Here’s
how the SCRIP program works.
The SCRIP center purchases discounted gift cards in bulk, and
Blessed Sacrament School purchases these cards from the SCRIP center at
the discounted price. Discounts range from 1% to 50%. You
purchase these gift cards and certificates at full face value and use them
in stores you are already frequenting.
It’s that simple!
-
Here’s
an example.
In a typical week, Jane Q. Family spends $100 on groceries, $50 on
gas, $20 on fast food, $10 on movie rentals, and $20 on gifts for family
or friends, for a total of $200. Now instead of writing multiple
checks, and driving up at the Wendy’s with no cash, Jane writes one
check to BSS for $200 and receives the following: a $100 Food Lion card, a
$50 Shell gas card, $20 in Wendy’s certificates, a $10 Hollywood Video
card, and a $20 Books-A-Million card. Jane still has the same $200
worth of purchasing power, but she only has only written one check,
her children did not have to sell worthless items door to door, and
Blessed Sacrament School has earned $15! Isn’t that simple?
-
Half
of the profit amount is automatically allocated to Blessed Sacrament
School’s HSA. As an added incentive, we offer scrip participants the
option of allocating the other 50% of that profit to one of five
funds. Your 50% can to go to the HSA, Faith Development, the tuition
assistance fund, Blessed Sacrament Church, or personal tuition reduction.
-
The
$200 that Jane was going to spend anyway reduced her tuition payment by
$7.50. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but over the course of a year,
that really adds up to big savings!
If each family just bought just $50 worth of groceries using SCRIP
each week, the total profit per family would be $130.
-
Don’t
forget about SCRIP when you’re doing your gift shopping.
Everyone loves gift certificates, and they are a great, easy,
hassle-free gift.
No returning, no exchanging, and no re-gifting.
Plus, you make money for the school!
-
It's
so easy to get started buying SCRIP. You fill out a sheet with your
personal information and profit designation for your 50%.
In every What’s Up Wednesday newsletter, there is a SCRIP order
form.
Each Monday, send in your order and check made payable to BSS-HSA
with your child. We will place the order and send your gift cards
home with your child on Wednesday. It couldn’t be easier! In
addition, we sell scrip in the mornings from 7:45-8:15 in the Mrs. Moore
Library for any last-minute items. There is a great selection
of scrip on hand.
Scrip is also sold at Blessed Sacrament Church after mass.
-
When
parents from other schools hear about our SCRIP program, they are very
envious.
Most parents hate imposing on relatives, friends and co-workers to
buy unneeded items from school sales, but they have no choice as many
schools fund raise only using sales.
We are incredibly fortunate that our children attend a school where
this type of fund raising is unnecessary.
By using SCRIP, we can ensure that we never again have to resort to
this type of fund raising.
-
Every
year our school faces the same dilemma: meeting needs that go beyond what
the budget provides. Examples of this are programs like the Blue Ribbon
Series, music, art, and faculty enrichment/training opportunities. As
parents we want to help give our children and teachers every opportunity,
but there is only so much we can do on our own, and only so much we can
give. SCRIP is a program that gives us a constant, easy source of help.
By combining our spending dollars and working together, we can
create a powerful source of revenue for our children, this school, and the
programs that will make a difference.
